We all know what B.S. is, right? I’m not talking about a degree you get from a university, but rather the recycled food products from the backside of a bull that helps our gardens and vegetables grow.
B.S. is also a slang term to describe something that is untrue, false, deceptive…an outright lie.
For example, if I were to tell you I had some great news to share, you’d probably get excited for me. If I then told you that…..
In 2004, I was Executive Director at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Most weeks I typed up an article for the weekend bulletin, including the weekend of 9/11 & 9/12 of that year. I saved a copy of that article and some of the things I wrote back then still hold true today.
Pastor Michael Schram (who was a pastor at St. James at that time) had shared the following e-mail with me entitled “Cute Story”:
Charlie Brown should have known what I’m about to tell you.
In “Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown,” a Peanuts cartoon from 1975, all Charlie Brown wants is just one Valentine’s Day card. That’s not too much to ask, is it? While he is hoping it is from the little red-haired girl he has a crush on, Charlie would be happy if
Super Bowl Sunday is here! Depending on when you read this, the big game is either a few hours away, or you already know the outcome. If you are a fan of the Denver Broncos or Carolina Panthers, you have a certain level of excitement the rest of us don’t have (Packers fans will know this feeling again in 2017!). In August of each year, the players on thirty-two teams start the football season with the hopes of winning the…..
[Jesus said] “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41 ESV
Although Jesus spoke those words to His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane, I have a hunch He had a passing thought about me at the same time. I also imagine when He thought about those words and how they would apply to me, He managed a little smile and a shake of His head. You’ll understand why in a minute.
I was talking with a friend of mine at a Christmas party this week and she told me about a recent phone call she had from one of her clients. The customer was a little frantic about a mutual project they were working on. She let the customer go on for a while and get her feelings off her chest, and then she politely stopped her and said, “Hey Wendy*, I’ve got this. It will all be taken care of;…..
If memory serves me correctly, I think it was a national telephone company that first advertised the “Friends and Family” plan. There are companies today that offer the same sort of deal. The idea is that the more friends and family you have in your network, the more benefits you will receive.
The same is true when you are dealing with life’s struggles, especially when you lose someone close to you. The more true friends and family you have in…..
Think back to your childhood. Did you ever have a bad dream? How about a skinned knee? Anybody ever pick on you or bully you? When the tragedies of childhood came into your life, what did you do? If you were like me, you ran with tear-stained cheeks to your parents, or grandparents, or some other adult you trusted. And most likely, because they loved you, they asked you what was wrong, took you in their arms, kissed the boo-boo,…..
