In 2004, I was Executive Director at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Most weeks I typed up an article for the weekend bulletin, including the weekend of 9/11 & 9/12 of that year. I saved a copy of that article and some of the things I wrote back then still hold true today.

As I write this on a beautiful winter Saturday afternoon in Northeast Wisconsin, Winter Storm Jonas is unleashing its fury on the East Coast of the United States. Heavy snows (over three feet in some instances), freezing rain, and very strong winds have been reported. Airplanes are grounded. Travelers are stranded. Power is out. People are hunkered down to wait for the storm to pass so life can get back to normal.

If memory serves me correctly, I think it was a national telephone company that first advertised the “Friends and Family” plan. There are companies today that offer the same sort of deal. The idea is that the more friends and family you have in your network, the more benefits you will receive.
