“Get Up. We Need To Finish This.”

James Meyer Blog 2 0

In 2004, I was Executive Director at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Most weeks I typed up an article for the weekend bulletin, including the weekend of 9/11 & 9/12 of that year. I saved a copy of that article and some of the things I wrote back then still hold true today.

Pastor Michael Schram (who was a pastor at St. James at that time) had shared the following e-mail with me entitled “Cute Story”:

My Life…Two Years After It Ended

James Meyer Blog 5 0

As a political conservative, I can’t believe I am about to type this next sentence…

Vice President Joe Biden was absolutely right.

But before I explain that statement, allow me to digress. As the title to this post states, my life ended two years ago on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 – the day God called my Mom, Lorraine Meyer, Home to Heaven.

Early Warning Systems

James Meyer Blog 7 0

As I write this on a beautiful winter Saturday afternoon in Northeast Wisconsin, Winter Storm Jonas is unleashing its fury on the East Coast of the United States. The same is true when you are dealing with life’s struggles, especially when you lose someone close to you. The more true friends and family you have in…..

How Jesus Helps Us Cope With Death

James Meyer Blog 1 0

Think back to your childhood. Did you ever have a bad dream? How about a skinned knee? Anybody ever pick on you or bully you? When the tragedies of childhood came into your life, what did you do? If you were like me, you ran with tear-stained cheeks to your parents, or grandparents, or some other adult you trusted. And most likely, because they loved you, they asked you what was wrong, took you in their arms, kissed the boo-boo,…..

The Inspiration for God Knew

James Meyer Blog 1 1

Inspiration can come in many forms: a beautiful sunrise on a calm summer day, a majestic mountain range, a garden filled with colorful, fragrant flowers, or an encouraging word from a family member or close friend. But inspiration that comes from grief and sadness? Who knew that death could be an inspiration? God knew.
